ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The All Progressives Congress (APC), has fixed May 16 and May 23, 2026, for the conduct of its presidential and governorship primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections, as it unveiled a detailed timetable for the nomination process.

The party also announced a two-week window for the sale and submission of nomination forms, setting strict deadlines for aspirants across all elective positions.

National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, disclosed that presidential aspirants will pay N100 million for expression of interest and nomination forms, while governorship aspirants will pay N50 million. Senate forms are pegged at N20 million, and House of Representatives forms at N10 million.

According to the timetable signed by National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, the sale of forms will run from April 25 to May 2 at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, with May 4 fixed as the deadline for submission.

Screening of presidential aspirants is scheduled for May 9, while other aspirants will be screened between May 6 and May 8, with additional screening slated for May 12 and May 13.

Primary elections for legislative positions will hold on different dates, with the House of Representatives primaries set for May 18, Senate for May 20, and State Houses of Assembly for May 21.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already fixed the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while governorship and state assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027. It also directed that party primaries must hold between April 23 and May 30, 2026.

INEC further stated that campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections will begin on August 19, 2026, while governorship campaigns will commence on September 9, 2026.

The APC noted that female aspirants, youths, and persons with disabilities would receive concessions, paying only for expression of interest forms and 50 per cent of nomination fees.

Morka assured party members and stakeholders of a transparent process, stating that the APC remains committed to credible primaries that will strengthen internal democracy.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also adopted a timetable for its 2027 electoral activities, despite ongoing internal divisions.

The party has been split between factions linked to Nyesom Wike and another bloc associated with Tanimu Turaki, with both sides locked in legal battles over party leadership.

At its 108th NEC meeting in Abuja, the faction led by National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed declared that the party had overcome its crisis and is now ā€œstrong, united and formidable.ā€

However, dissenting voices remain. The Turaki-led faction, through its spokesman Ini Ememobong, dismissed the meeting, describing participants as ā€œAPC apologists masquerading as PDP members.ā€

Despite the disagreements, the PDP said it would proceed with preparations, including the sale of forms, primaries, and dispute resolution mechanisms in line with INEC guidelines.

On its part, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) said it is working towards adopting a consensus approach in selecting its presidential candidate.

National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the party prefers consensus because it is less costly and could help unify aspirants ahead of the election.

ā€œWe are trying as much as possible to adopt the consensus approach because that is the least costly for us,ā€ he said.
