Primary elections for legislative positions will hold on different dates, with the House of Representatives primaries set for May 18, Senate for May 20, and State Houses of Assembly for May 21.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already fixed the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while governorship and state assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027. It also directed that party primaries must hold between April 23 and May 30, 2026.
INEC further stated that campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections will begin on August 19, 2026, while governorship campaigns will commence on September 9, 2026.
The APC noted that female aspirants, youths, and persons with disabilities would receive concessions, paying only for expression of interest forms and 50 per cent of nomination fees.
Morka assured party members and stakeholders of a transparent process, stating that the APC remains committed to credible primaries that will strengthen internal democracy.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also adopted a timetable for its 2027 electoral activities, despite ongoing internal divisions.
The party has been split between factions linked to Nyesom Wike and another bloc associated with Tanimu Turaki, with both sides locked in legal battles over party leadership.
At its 108th NEC meeting in Abuja, the faction led by National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed declared that the party had overcome its crisis and is now āstrong, united and formidable.ā

However, dissenting voices remain. The Turaki-led faction, through its spokesman Ini Ememobong, dismissed the meeting, describing participants as āAPC apologists masquerading as PDP members.ā
Despite the disagreements, the PDP said it would proceed with preparations, including the sale of forms, primaries, and dispute resolution mechanisms in line with INEC guidelines.
On its part, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) said it is working towards adopting a consensus approach in selecting its presidential candidate.
National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the party prefers consensus because it is less costly and could help unify aspirants ahead of the election.
āWe are trying as much as possible to adopt the consensus approach because that is the least costly for us,ā he said.
