LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)-Veteran Nollywood actor Saheed Balogun has come under heavy criticism after appearing as a lead man at a political rally in Lagos organized by supporters of First Lady Remi Tinubu.
The event, held on Friday, April 17, was part of a campaign push to support President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
At the rally, members of the Remi Tinubu Support Organization (RETSO) marched through the streets, singing and dancing while showing their support.
Notably, Balogun, who serves as the Director General of Media and Entertainment for the group, was seen actively participating.
Dressed in white with a customized outfit and cap, he joined other supporters in energizing the crowd as traffic moved along nearby roads.

Meanwhile, during a press conference linked to the event, the actor openly praised the First Lady’s efforts under her husband’s administration.
“What she is doing, has any other First Lady done it? She has done a lot, recently she did a food initiative for kids,” Balogun said.
In addition, support for the president has also come from his son, Seyi Tinubu, through the City Boy Movement, which has attracted high-profile figures including businessmen like Obi Cubana and Cubana Chiefpriest.
However, Balogun’s political stance has not gone unnoticed by the public.
Many social media users questioned his support, linking it to a past health crisis during which he reportedly received help from the president and First Lady.
In earlier remarks, the actor had credited the couple for arranging medical treatment abroad, revealing that Remi Tinubu called him a “national treasure” while ensuring his recovery.
On the other hand, critics argue that his endorsement ignores current economic struggles under the ruling party. Some pointed to rising fuel costs and general hardship, accusing supporters of overlooking the challenges faced by ordinary Nigerians.
Supporters of the ruling party and the actor however, praised his efforts in supporting the current administration and publicly showing his respect for the First Family.
