LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Leading food and beverage company, Nestlé Nigeria, working alongside water companies has introduced a new nationwide initiative with a practical guide designed to help Nigerians protect the quality of the water they use daily.
In association with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation and the Organised Private Sector in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, they announced that the National Water Quality Advocacy Handbook is released to educate people on safe water practices.
The handbook made its debut at the Annual Water Quality Conference in Abuja, marking a major milestone in a nationwide campaign focused on improving water safety and public health.
Rather than using complex scientific language, the guide breaks down water safety into simple, everyday actions.
It explains how to spot risks, store water safely, treat it at home, and protect local water sources. It also reminds people that even clear-looking water may still carry harmful contaminants.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Terlumun Utsev, Nestlé Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Lead, Victoria Uwadoka, said water quality improvement outcomes in Nigeria requires sustained public awareness and education.
Individuals and communities must be equipped with the knowledge to adopt safe practices and protect their health.
In a goodwill message, Elhusseini explained that the Water Quality Handbook represents an important step in this effort, helping to take water safety knowledge directly to communities and promote responsible water use nationwide.
Highlighting the company’s broader mission, he noted, “Water is fundamental to life, public health, and economic development, and as a food and beverage company, it is essential across our value chain.
Through our water business, we are committed to delivering safe, high-quality water to consumers every day.”
However, that commitment extends beyond operations to protecting shared water resources and improving access to safe water for communities.
By leading the development of the handbook the company reiterated its commitment to strengthening water quality standards and promoting safer practices, particularly for individuals and families.

Meanwhile, the National Coordinator of Organised Private Sector in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (OPS-WASH), Nicholas Igwe, he highlighted the need for teamwork across sectors.
“Improving water quality outcomes in Nigeria requires coordinated action across stakeholders, from policy to community-level implementation. This handbook helps strengthen awareness, support community education, and identify gaps that require technical and financial support….”
Notably, the initiative focuses heavily on daily habits, recognizing that most water-related risks occur at home or within communities where water is handled and consumed.
The handbook will be distributed both online and offline through partners including RUWASSA, supported by a nationwide awareness campaign aimed at encouraging safer water practices.
In conclusion, Nestlé Nigeria pushes further to make water safety a shared responsibility, inviting Nigerians everywhere to learn, act, and help protect one of the country’s most essential resources.
