ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Chairman of the Lagos State Baales’ Forum, has urged residents across all local council areas to participate in the April 25 environmental sanitation exercise to help keep the state clean and safe as the rainy season approaches.
Keshinro made the appeal in an interview on Saturday in Lagos.
The Lagos State Government has reintroduced its monthly environmental sanitation programme, which is set to resume on April 25.
He emphasised that adopting proactive environmental habits is essential to reducing the effects of the rainy season.
According to him, the sanitation exercise goes beyond routine, serving as a preventive step against flooding, environmental degradation, and disease outbreaks.

“As we approach the rainy season, it is important for residents to take the April 25 environmental sanitation very seriously.
“Cleaning drainage channels, clearing refuse and keeping surroundings tidy will go a long way in preventing flooding and health challenges associated with poor sanitation,” he said.
Keshinro expressed concern over indiscriminate waste disposal and blocked drainage systems in several communities, warning that such practices could worsen flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.
He noted that active community involvement is crucial to achieving meaningful results, stressing that government efforts alone cannot suffice without grassroots participation.
“The government cannot do it alone. Residents must take ownership of their environment by ensuring proper waste disposal and regular cleaning of their surroundings,” he said.
He further called on traditional rulers and community leaders to step up awareness campaigns within their areas to ensure compliance.
“I urge all traditional rulers to mobilise their residents and ensure they come out to participate fully in the sanitation.
“They should sensitise households in their communities and encourage everyone to take part, because a clean environment benefits everyone,” he said.
Keshinro also advised traders and market leaders to maintain cleanliness in their business areas and refrain from dumping refuse into drainage channels.
He praised the Lagos State Government for sustaining the monthly sanitation initiative, describing it as crucial for environmental cleanliness and public health.
Keshinro added that traditional institutions remain committed to supporting government initiatives aimed at promoting environmental hygiene and preventing flooding across the state.
“The Baales’ Forum will continue to work with the government and residents to promote cleanliness and environmental responsibility across Lagos,” he said.
