LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian comedian Okey Bakassi has offered a N5 million reward to anyone who can successfully track any of the eight mobile phones stolen from him and his friends during a private football match in Ikoyi.
In a video shared on Instagram on Thursday, the comedian gave the suspected thief a 24-hour deadline to return the devices. He warned that legal actions would follow if the phones are not returned to the football field’s security post within that time frame.
“If you’re the one who came out this evening to play with us and you feel that the way to pay us back is to cart away phones and vanish, we will find you. It will only take time. In your best interest, you have the next 24 hours to return those phones back to the security post where you took them from,” he said.

The incident reportedly happened during the group’s regular Wednesday evening football session on April 15. According to Bakassi, the suspect was allowed to join the game after expressing interest in playing.
However, soon after he joined the game, the alleged thief claimed to be injured and stepped out the pitch. While the match continued, the man allegedly took advantage of the moment to steal eight phones belonging to the players and escaped unnoticed.
Bakassi stressed that the stolen devices belong to businessmen who rely heavily on them for daily transactional operations, making the situation more urgent due to sensitive information stored on the phones.
In response, the comedian called on the public for help, promising a cash reward of N5 million to anyone with tech knowledge capable of tracking at least one of the missing devices.

“For everyone else who knows how to track phones, contact me in my DM. There’s a five million naira waiting for whoever can track any one of those phones,” he added.
Notably, Bakassi warned buyers in the second-hand phone market to properly verify sellers and avoid the ignorant purchase of stolen property, noting that the suspect may try to sell the phones quickly at reduced prices.
He stated that police authorities have already been alerted and are working to trace the suspect.
