ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-At least seven people, including students, sustained injuries after a gunman opened fire inside a high school in south-eastern Turkey on Tuesday, local media reports have said.

The incident occurred in the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa Province, where an unidentified attacker armed with a shotgun reportedly gained access to the school early in the day and began shooting indiscriminately.

The Demirören News Agency reported on Tuesday that the motive behind the attack was not immediately clear.

According to the report, the suspect remained within the school premises after the shooting and was refusing to surrender despite repeated police warnings.

Authorities were said to be making ongoing efforts to persuade the gunman to give himself up.

Security personnel have since sealed off the area, while emergency responders were deployed to attend to the injured victims.

Officials have yet to provide further details regarding the victims’ conditions or the identity of the assailant.
