ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Monday appeared before the Kaduna State High Court as his trial, instituted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, resumed.
El-Rufai, who is facing trial alongside Amadu Sule, is being prosecuted on multiple charges, including abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage.
Moments before entering the courtroom, the former governor was overheard discussing the forthcoming national convention of the African Democratic Congress scheduled for Tuesday.
“So tomorrow is our convention, right?” El-Rufai asked.
“Insha Allah (God willing),” his associate responded.
In a separate case before the Federal High Court in Kaduna, also filed by the ICPC, El-Rufai is facing a 10-count charge bordering on alleged abuse of office, money laundering, and fraud involving N579.6 million and $1.1 million.

He has, however, consistently denied all allegations.
The former governor has been entangled in multiple legal battles since his return from Cairo, Egypt, on February 12, 2026.
Following his return, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), initially detained him before transferring him to the ICPC.
He was later granted temporary release on compassionate grounds to attend his mother’s burial and subsequently returned to custody.
Meanwhile, the Federal High Court in Kaduna had earlier fixed April 14 for his bail hearing coinciding with the ADC national convention.
Amid the legal proceedings, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that the prosecution is politically motivated, an accusation the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed.
