LASEMA Addresses Multiple Emergencies Across Lagos

ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has responded to a series of incidents across the state, including fallen containers, road traffic accidents and fire outbreaks.

The Permanent Secretary of the agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos.

Oke-Osanyitolu said at Apongbon, inward Eko Bridge, a 40-foot container fell from a Mack truck onto a van, causing traffic gridlock.

“Fortunately, no lives were lost, but the incident resulted in significant traffic congestion. LASEMA and other responders successfully recovered the container,” he said.

Oke-Osanyintolu said in another incident at Barracks, inward Stadium, a truck lost control and fell, blocking a section of the road.

“The driver escaped unhurt, and officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) towed the truck away,” he said.

He added that three vehicles were involved in an accident at 7Up Road, in front of the Governor’s Office.

“The vehicles involved include a GAC Jeep, a police Hilux and a luxury bus. One person sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment,” he said.

The permanent secretary added that a fire outbreak at Ajao Estate destroyed a storey building.

“No lives were lost, and preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was caused by a power surge.

Emergency responders worked to contain the fire and prevent further damage,” he said.

He also said that another fire incident occurred at CMS Bridge, Landmark Marina Station, involving a truck carrying 10,000 litres of diesel.

“The fire was caused by a mechanical fault. No casualties were recorded, and responders evacuated the truck to avert further risks,” he said.

Oke-Osanyintolu advised residents to exercise caution and promptly report emergencies through the toll-free lines 112 or 767.
