LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osondu Ohaeri, has reported a major breakthrough along the Kugbo outbound corridor in Abuja after strict limits on heavy trucks lead to zero accidents along the busy route.

The development was confirmed in a statement by Ohaeri who described the outcome as a major step toward safer roads in the Federal Capital Territory, following the enforcement of its “Operation Safe Kugbo”.

The operation, which began on March 18, focuses on controlling the movement of heavy-duty vehicles during peak traffic periods. Since its launch, officials have restricted at least 858 trucks and articulated vehicles from using the corridor at busy hours.

According to the FRSC, the result reflects improved planning, strict enforcement, and consistent monitoring by its personnel.

“The initiative is rooted in the provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations (NRTR), particularly Section 223, as well as the FCT Traffic Regulations,” he said.

Furthermore, the Corps noted that the operation supports its safety targets for 2026, aimed at reducing road crashes across the country.

“At the operational level, the Unit Commander, RS7.13 Nyanya, CRC WF Luka, is spearheading compliance efforts through targeted patrols, strategic positioning and real-time traffic control during peak periods,” Ohaeri reported.

Officials added that monitoring will continue to ensure compliance and maintain the progress already achieved.

Notably, the FRSC believes the zero-crash record highlights the importance of limiting truck movement during heavy traffic. It also called on drivers and transport operators to obey the rules to sustain safer roads in the capital and beyond.
