ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested a 29-year-old suspect and dismantled drug hubs during a midnight raid on criminal hideouts in the New Artisan area of Enugu.

The operation, carried out on April 5, 2026, by officers attached to the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, was based on intelligence-led surveillance aimed at curbing criminal activities in the area.

Police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, in a press release disclosed that the suspect, identified as Francisco Olugba, was apprehended during the raid, with several incriminating items recovered from him.

Recovered exhibits include quantities of suspected Cannabis Sativa, bags containing clothes believed to have been stolen from victims, eleven SIM cards from different network providers, a pair of scissors, and other items.

Beyond the arrest, the operatives also dismantled drug peddling and consumption centres in the area, destroying makeshift structures commonly known as “bunks” used for illicit activities.

The police said the operation significantly disrupted criminal networks operating within the axis, adding that investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate and uncover the full scope of their operations.

Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and crime prevention.

He urged residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant, while encouraging them to report suspicious persons and activities promptly to the police.

The Command said it would sustain intelligence-driven operations to ensure the safety and security of lives and property across the state.
