ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-The Nigeria Police Force has rescued seven kidnapped victims following a deadly attack by bandits in Kaduna State, where five persons were killed and several others abducted.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, ordered the immediate deployment of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Shehu Umar Nadada, to coordinate response efforts after the assault on Ariko Village near Gurara Dam.
Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, disclosed the development on Monday, confirming the scale of the attack.
“Five people were killed, and approximately fourteen others were abducted.
“On April 5, 2026, armed bandits attacked ECWA and Catholic Churches in the community, firing indiscriminately.

“In response, the IGP ordered immediate operational intervention.

“The DIG Operations was deployed to assess the situation on site and coordinate security efforts to restore order and secure the release of the abducted victims,” he said.
Placid added that a joint security operation led to the successful rescue of some of the victims.
“During the operation, the team led by DIG Nadada, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS), rescued seven kidnapped victims.
“They were taken to Katari Hospital for medical care and are in stable condition, awaiting reunion with their families,” he said.
He noted that efforts were ongoing to secure the release of those still in captivity and bring perpetrators to justice.
“The IGP affirms that operations continue to secure the release of the remaining victims and apprehend those responsible.
“He urges the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and provide credible information to support ongoing efforts,” Placid added.
The latest incident highlights persistent security challenges in parts of Kaduna State, with coordinated attacks on religious centres raising fresh concerns over the safety of rural communities.
