ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-An early morning explosion at Mando Motor Park in Kaduna has destroyed three luxury buses powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. while the vehicles were parked ahead of interstate trips scheduled for later in the day.

A manager at Silver Transport Company, who requested anonymity and whose buses were affected, said the explosion happened while the vehicles were stationary.

He noted that the buses were newly acquired, adding, “No one was inside the vehicles. They were parked to board passengers this morning.” He further explained that the buses were powered by CNG and raised concerns about its usage.

He also disclosed that operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant agencies were at the scene to determine the cause of the explosion. “They are carrying out investigations to ascertain what caused the incident,” he said.

The Kaduna State Police Command, in a statement, clarified that the minor explosion recorded in the early hours of Sunday was not a bomb blast.

A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, on Sunday noted, “We wish to set the record straight regarding reports of an alleged explosion in Kaduna by some media.

“On 5th April, 2026, at about 0300 hours, a loud sound was reported at Silver Luxury Travel a luxurious bus traveling company located at Mando motor park where the vehicles used gas instead of diesel or petrol at Mando Garage, Kaduna.

“Upon receipt of the report, detectives were promptly dispatched to the scene. Preliminary findings revealed that the incident involved an LNG-propelled luxury bus belonging to Silver Luxury Travel, which exploded due to overfilling of its gas tank.

“The vehicle has since been evacuated to a safe location, and the area secured. No casualties or loss of property were recorded, and normal activities have resumed in the area.

“The Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, CP Muhammad Rabiu, has since ordered a full investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident to avoid future occurrence and the bomb disposal unit of Nigeria police force has been dispatched to the scene.

“The Kaduna State Police Command urges members of the public to verify information before sharing, particularly on matters relating to security, as the spread of unverified reports can cause unnecessary panic.”
