LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Akinbiyi Abiola Ahmed, popularly known as Bella Shmurda, has shared a past phase of reckless spending to support his lavish lifestyle, admitting it almost pushed him into financial trouble.
In a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the “Cash App” star revealed that he once lived beyond his means, spending heavily on luxury items, accommodating over ten people in his house, and taking care of friends in ways that drained his finances.
According to Bella Shmurda, his quick rise to fame and desire to enjoy success quickly led to poor financial decisions. He admitted that he bought expensive items he didn’t truly need and tried to maintain a flashy lifestyle for himself and those around him.
“I used to have a lot of money but I rushed things. I wish I was wise then. I was just buying things extravagantly, things I eventually had no need for,” he said.

Furthermore, supporting a large group of friends added to the financial pressure. From housing them to buy cars so they could all move around together on outings he fully funded, to the cost of keeping up appearances became overwhelming for the artist.
“I was accommodating up to ten of my friends back then and we were all receiving female visitors. I bought three cars at once just so that my friends would go out with me in convoy. I was reckless,” he added.
However, the experience has since changed his mindset. The singer said he now takes a more careful approach to managing money and thinks through every financial decision.
“At this point, as I am getting new money, I have to think about every move I want to take,” Bella Shmurda added, highlighting the importance of financial discipline and long-term planning.
