LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian relationship expert Blessing Okoro, widely known as Blessing CEO, has addressed the controversy over her public request for financial support following an alleged cancer diagnosis, and explaining the delay in her planned surgery.
The social media personality had earlier revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer in January, prompting her to seek help ahead of a planned surgery.
However, her appeal quickly sparked debate online, with some users questioning her intentions and suggesting she may have misled supporters.
In response to the growing backlash, Blessing addressed the issue during an Instagram Live session with social commentator Daddy Freeze, offering more clarity about her situation.
According to her, the decision to ask for funds early was a practical step, not a deceptive move.
“I was diagnosed with cancer in January 2026. After the diagnosis, I began preparing for a mastectomy to determine how far the tumour has spread. The surgery was initially scheduled for last week but was postponed because of this live session with Daddy Freeze,” she said.

She explained that at the time of making the appeal, she did not yet have a full breakdown of the medical costs involved and wanted to be prepared for any unforeseen costs.
“Some people also said recovery can be very difficult, so asking for support early is my way of preparing, rather than reaching out during a more vulnerable moment,” the influencer noted.
In addition, she noted that the procedure is only one part of a longer medical journey. Further tests and recovery care will be required after surgery, which she says could significantly increase expenses.
“I asked for financial assistance because I need funds for the surgery, even though I don’t yet know the exact cost. I was unclear about the full process until now. After the mastectomy, further tests are needed to ensure the cancer has not spread,” Blessing CEO added.
Meanwhile, Blessing emphasized that her intention was to stay ahead of potential financial pressure rather than wait until the situation becomes more critical.
