ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday met with Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as part of urgent efforts to address the worsening security situation in the state following recent deadly attacks.

Mutfwang arrived at the President’s official residence in Aso Rock Villa around 6:45pm, with the meeting coming days after a Palm Sunday attack in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos, where at least 27 persons were reportedly killed.

The meeting was convened at the instance of the President, who had earlier summoned the governor for high-level discussions on the resurgence of violence in Plateau State.

The development followed strong condemnation by Tinubu of the Jos killings and a separate attack in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where wedding guests were killed and abducted.

Describing the incidents as “barbaric and cowardly,” Tinubu had vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.

“Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens as done in Jos and Kahir village is a heartless coward,” the President said.

Wednesday’s meeting is expected to centre on immediate and long-term security measures to halt the killings, strengthen intelligence gathering, and prevent further attacks in Plateau and neighbouring states.

While condemning the violence, Tinubu had earlier commended Mutfwang for his efforts to contain the situation in Jos, even as he directed security agencies to intensify operations to track down the perpetrators.

The President also cautioned sections of the media against portraying the attacks as religiously motivated, warning that such narratives could further inflame tensions and worsen the crisis.

The closed-door talks signal growing concern within the presidency over the security situation in Plateau, with fresh strategies likely to emerge from the engagement aimed at restoring peace in the troubled region.
