LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nollywood star Moyo Lawal has set social media abuzz after unveiling a darker skin tone, drawing overwhelming praise from fans who applaud her decision to embrace her natural appearance.

The actress, widely recognized for her previously fair complexion, shared new photos on April 1, revealing a visibly darker skin tone alongside neatly styled cornrows, a look that quickly captured public attention.

In her post, Lawal directly addressed critics who have long scrutinized her looks, delivering a pointed message about online hypocrisy.

“I hope my bullies are happy now. Always bullying only me for what 90% is guilty of. Sheybi, I can breathe now,” she wrote, showing her transformation as both personal liberation and a response to backlash.

The reaction from fans and critics was immediate. While some followers expressed surprise at the dramatic change, a wave of support soon dominated the conversation.

Admirers praised her confidence and encouraged her to remain steadfast in her decision.

“You’re so beautiful Moyo 😍,” one user, Muyiwa, commented. Another, Bi-polar, added, “They are only picking on successful women because they are weak minded men who failed in life. Please don’t let them bully you, fight back and tell them that no one created you so no one can bully you. Very weak men.”

Others echoed similar sentiments, urging the actress to ignore negativity. “You dey send people? Just be yourself, social media na mess up,” user AmbFemiAfolabi wrote, applauding the actress’s self-acceptance.

However, not all reactions were positive. Critics resurfaced older images of Lawal, comparing her previous darker complexion to her later fairer look, questioning her past choices.

Some comments took a mocking tone, with one user writing, “Who pour you petrol and light you😂,” while another added, “When you become chameleon wen de change colours anyhow 🤣🤣.”

Despite the criticism, many applauded the actress’s decision to return to her natural skin tone.

Many fans described the actress as beautiful in her natural state, while encouraging her bold stand against societal pressures tied to skin tone.

The conversation also feeds into a broader cultural dialogue. Skin bleaching continues to be widespread across society, including celebrities and influencers, often fueled by beauty standards and social expectations.

Although health professionals consistently warn against its risks, the practice remains popular, with costly skincare routines frequently showcased online.

Lawal’s latest reveal shifts the spotlight toward self acceptance, with fans rallying behind her choice to embrace her natural look.
