LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian singer Omah Lay has shared rare insights into his private life, revealing how his “weird” personality, intense emotions, and industry pressures shape his friendships and creative process.

Speaking during a recent episode of the Nando Leaks podcast, the singer described himself as someone who doesn’t easily fit in. He admitted that his personality may come across as unusual, which has naturally limited the number of close connections he keeps.

“I have a very weird personality, I believe I am just that guy, so I don’t have a lot of friends. I don’t talk to a lot of people, just very few people and those people are people who try to come into my world and understand where I am going,” he said.

As a result, the artist explained that he is comfortable maintaining a small circle of trusted people who truly understand him. Rather than trying to please everyone, he prefers a few good friends over popularity.

However, his challenges with meaningful connections is compounded by the lack of trust in the industry. The “Waist” hitmaker pointed to the nature of the music industry itself, describing it as a space filled with strong egos, which makes building genuine friendships even more difficult.

“The Nigerian music scene is full of egos. I am a chill guy but I have too much ego. It is hard to make friends like that,” he added.

Away from the troubles of the music industry, Omah Lay also opened up about how deeply he experiences emotions. He described himself as someone who becomes completely consumed when he loves, whether it’s a person or his craft. According to him, this intense focus often pushes him to pour everything into his music.

To find balance, the artist turns to creating songs, writing lyrics, and working in the studio, using music as an emotional outlet. Despite briefly trying professional help twice, he revealed that it didn’t work for him.

“Music is the only therapy that I have. I tried to do therapy one time or twice, that didn’t work for me,” he stated.
