LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- American singer and rapper Melissa Viviane Jefferson, known popularly as Lizzo, shocked fans with a deeply personal confession about her life, revealing that she did not lose her virginity until her 30s, after years of saying she had an active sexual life to fit in.
Speaking on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast hosted by Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky, and Kristin Batalucco, the superstar admitted she had not been honest about her sexual history in the past.
According to the singer, she pretended to be sexually active during her time at the University of Houston to avoid feeling left out among her peers.
In her defense, she made a promise to her younger self to stay sexually pure until she won a Grammy.

“I promised myself when I was younger that I wouldn’t have sex until I won a Grammy. I kept that pact for nearly two decades,” Lizzo said.
However, after the 37-year-old star won her first Grammy in 2020, taking home multiple awards including Best Pop Solo Performance for “Truth Hurts,” she finally broke her long-standing promise.
In addition, Lizzo reflected on her early romantic experiences, revealing that her first kiss came at age 21 and was far from a fairytale kiss. She explained that her upbringing played a big role in her decisions, noting that she and her friends once agreed to avoid sex before marriage due to their religious beliefs.

Reflecting on finally sharing her truth, Lizzo described the experience as freeing after years of keeping it hidden.
“like a weight lifted off my chest,” she said, admitting that she had carried the secret for a long time.
