LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Award-winning actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has offered a rare glimpse into her personal life, describing herself as an “extremist” in relationships, loving intensely yet severing ties completely when trust is broken.
The Nollywood star made the candid revelation during an appearance on The Morayo Show hosted by Morayo Afolabi-Brown, reflecting on her emotional intensity and evolving self-awareness.
Akindele did not shy away from acknowledging her complex personality, saying, “I’m an extremist. I love so hard. I’m real. I’m like this. I’m not perfect. I can be troublesome. Yes, I can be. I’m tough.”
However, the conversation took a more introspective turn when the actress admitted she is actively working to strike a healthier emotional balance. She agreed that while she often tends to operate at emotional extremes, she now realizes that growth requires intentional change.

“Morayo, I must say, I’m not proud of that and I’m proud of it. There must be a balance,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Akindele credited fellow filmmaker Uzee Usman for helping her confront blind spots in her leadership and relationships. She recalled a key moment when he challenged her perspective on dealing with people.
“You see, this one, number one, the way this boy is doing no good. But number one, you be leader. You go there, accept people as they be. No be every door you go, they close, number one. You go just leave them, put them for a place. And for the first time I sat down, I was quiet,” Akindele said.
Reflecting on that experience, she admitted it reshaped her thinking. The actress also shared lessons from her late mother, whose words continue to guide her approach to life and relationships.
“Everybody’s not as smart as you, as fast as you. Calm down. It is good, but calm down,” she recalled her mother saying.
Akindele emphasized that despite her intense nature, she remains committed to personal growth and emotional well-being. For her, mental health is a priority, and she is committed to maintaining emotional balance.
“Human relationships for me is very important and I’m learning every day. But no matter what happens, my mental health is very important,” she added.
