LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian rapper Aboriomoh Femi Raymond, popularly known as Dremo, has voiced frustration over what he sees as a persistent lack of recognition for his rap-game and why his move away from the genre still weighs heavily on his career journey.

During a candid conversation on the Echo Room podcast hosted by Teddy A, the rapper reflected on his journey, describing himself as an underappreciated talent despite years of dedication.

He revealed that he has fought many personal battles within the music industry, navigating fame, expectations, and creative identity.

“I feel like I am so underrated. People don’t know what I can do in the studio. But it is okay, I like the underdog story. Dem no rate me at all,” he said.

Furthermore, Dremo pointed to the dominance of Afrobeats and pop over rap music in Nigeria as the key issue that contributed to his situation.

According to him, the genre imbalance has made it harder for lyric-driven artists to thrive or gain mainstream validation.

Reflecting on his time under the DMW banner led by Davido, Dremo revealed that external influence shaped his artistic direction.

He admitted that advice from people within his circle led him to move away from rap in favor of a more commercial sound, a decision he now “regrets.”

“I regretted listening to dmw and Davido’s friends that were advising me to stop rap and go commercial. If not for their advice, I would’ve prefer to stick with my rap,” he added.
