ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has stepped up consultations with opposition leaders, holding strategic meetings with Rabiu Kwankwaso and David Mark as part of moves to reposition the African Democratic Congress (ADC), ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Atiku disclosed on Wednesday that the meetings, held in Abuja, were aimed at strengthening the party and charting a clear path towards what he described as good governance and national recovery.
“I paid a courtesy visit to the residence of my brother and partner, His Excellency Rabiu Kwankwaso. We had quality discussions on the progress of our party, the ADC, and how we must continue the work to ensure good governance and recovery are achieved in good time for the people,” Atiku said.

He added that his visit to Mark, the National Chairman of the ADC, also provided an opportunity to exchange ideas on deepening internal party structures and rebuilding public trust in Nigeria’s democracy.
“Also, this afternoon, I visited the National Chairman of our great party, ADC, Senator David Mark. It was a courtesy call that provided an opportunity to share ideas on how to further strengthen the ADC and restore confidence in Nigeria’s democracy,” he said.
The consultations come on the heels of Kwankwaso’s recent defection to the ADC, a development widely seen as a major boost to ongoing efforts to build a formidable opposition coalition ahead of the next general elections.
Political observers say Kwankwaso’s entry into the party, backed by his strong grassroots network, has injected fresh momentum into the ADC, positioning it as a rallying platform for disenchanted politicians and emerging blocs seeking to challenge the ruling party.
Kwankwaso and his supporters were formally received by Mark at a high-profile event in Kano, which drew notable political figures, including Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Aminu Tambuwal.
Mark described the development as a defining moment for Nigeria’s democratic evolution, underscoring the party’s growing appeal among opposition forces seeking a unified front ahead of 2027.
