LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nollywood star Lilian Afegbai has reacted strongly to her exclusion from the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) nominations, insisting her standout performance in a hit series deserved recognition.
Following the release of nominees for the 12th edition of the awards, the actress criticized the selection process for leaving her out while a co-star was included.
The awards list, unveiled last week, recognized Bimbo Akintola in the Best Lead Actress category for her detective role in To Kill A Monkey. However, Afegbai who portrayed Idia, the wife of Oboz da Boss in the same production was notably absent, a development she has publicly challenged.
In response, the actress asked the AMVCA to “eat their award,” arguing that her portrayal of Idia resonated strongly with audiences.

She described the character as one of the most talked-about roles from the series. According to her, the performance stood out both in popularity and execution, making the omission unfair.
Afegbai dismissed the importance of awards validation altogether, expressing confidence in her work while questioning the credibility of the decision.
Looking ahead, she declared that things happen for a reason and this could just be one of those moments.
“AMVCA smh. I always choose to believe everything happens for a reason. I don’t need a nomination for validation. The truth is clear: Nobody trended like Idia from TKAM last year. Her acting was 100. You guys can eat your award,” she wrote on X social.
Her reaction quickly gained traction online, fueling debates among fans and adding another layer of intrigue to this year’s AMVCA.
