LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi is ready to make a bold statement off the pitch with the upcoming release of his debut EP, “More To Life,” scheduled to drop on April 9.
The nine-track project introduces a different side to the Fulham star, blending his long-standing love for music with collaborations from both local and international artists such as 24 AM, Teniola Time, Gidi, Fido, and SPKS.
Visually, the EP leans into simplicity. Its black-and-white cover features a clean side-profile image of Iwobi in a beanie under a hoodie, complemented by smaller photos that trace his journey from childhood into his early teenage years. The minimalist design mirrors the project’s title, subtly hinting at a personal evolution beyond football.
Alex Iwobi’s play into music marks a shift for the midfielder, who has previously made brief appearances in the music scene. He once appeared alongside fellow footballer Chuba Akpom and British rapper Ramz on the track “Hop Out.” This time, Iwobi takes center stage with two solo tracks on the EP reflecting his growing confidence as a recording artist.

In earlier interviews, the footballer said that his passion for music is far from new. He opened up about nurturing his creativity during his time in London, where he explored life outside football through sound and rhythm. He also tied his artistic pursuits to his “Project 17” initiative, which aims to inspire young players while spotlighting meaningful causes.
According to him, encouragement from his friends during his secondary school days played a key role in shaping his willingness to express himself publicly.
“I’ve been doing music since secondary school. I made a song when I was 13 with a guy on my road. I have a studio at my house, so whenever I have free time, I go to my studio and just lay off what’s on my mind. But in the past two years, my boy said, ‘Why don’t you release it?’, and I thought, ‘Why not?’,” Iwobi told New York Times.
Pushing through private music sessions, in June 2024, he released his debut single “Don’t Shoot” under the name 17, a nod to his squad number across clubs like Arsenal, Everton, and Fulham, marking his official entry into the music industry.
Meanwhile, Iwobi continues to deliver on the pitch, contributing four goals and three assists in the Premier League this season for Fulham, proving his ability to balance top-level football with creative exploration.
Notably, his move into music, alongside his playful presence on Snapchat, highlights a clear desire to be seen as more than just a footballer, skillfully balancing his talents while thriving across multiple creative paths.
“More To Life” is expected to offer fans an intimate glimpse into Iwobi’s personality, blending his love for the pitch and the creative life into rhythmic storytelling and authentic sounds.
