ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised alarm over what it described as a calculated attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to destabilise its leadership through a planned protest in Abuja targeting its interim chairman, David Mark.
In a strongly worded statement titled “APC’s Desperate Plan Uncovered,” and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party alleged that the protest is part of a broader political strategy to discredit the ADC following recent high-profile defections into its fold.
“Yesterday, we disclosed a sinister plot by agents of the ruling APC government to pressure INEC into taking illegal action to destabilise our party, following the milestone movement of H.E. Rabiu Kwankwaso to the ADC. After meeting a brick wall with INEC, they have now changed tactics, but the objectives remain the same,” the statement read.
According to the party, intelligence at its disposal suggests that the protest, scheduled for Thursday, April 2, in Abuja, is allegedly being orchestrated with the backing of a top government official.
“Information reaching us this morning is that a public protest is being planned for tomorrow sponsored by a particularly notorious minister. Their expectation is that a protest will give oxygen to a case that is already suffocating in the courts under the weight of its own illegality,” it said.
The ADC further alleged that the planned demonstration would involve a rented crowd masquerading as aggrieved party members demanding a leadership change.

“The plan is simple: a paid crowd will take to the streets demanding ‘David Mark Must Go’. This, they hope, will create ‘public pressure’ on the INEC Chairman to magically upgrade and recognise an individual who resigned his position to the position of National Chairman of a party he no longer belongs to,” the statement added.
The party described the alleged move as a sign of mounting panic within the ruling party, insisting that its growing political momentum ahead of 2027 has unsettled its opponents.
“They are not just afraid of our momentum. They are afraid of what happens when the Nigerian people start paying attention and begin to believe that change is possible,” it stated.
While reaffirming its commitment to lawful conduct, the ADC vowed to resist any form of political interference aimed at undermining its structure or leadership.
It also called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene if those behind the alleged plot are acting without his approval.
“If they are not acting on his orders, President Bola Tinubu should rein in his enforcers before it is too late,” the party warned.
The allegation adds another layer to the intensifying political contest ahead of the 2027 elections, with both the ruling party and emerging opposition coalition now locked in a battle for narrative, structure, and public trust.
