ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has called for urgent national action over the recurring killings in Plateau State and other parts of Nigeria, insisting the violence must be treated as a national emergency.
Kwankwaso, in a post on his verified Facebook page, condemned the recent attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos, describing the killings as “senseless and barbaric,” while warning against continued inaction.
“The barbaric attack on the Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba, Jos is yet another tragic and shameful chapter in our nation’s history,” he said.
The former Minister of Defence argued that the persistent bloodshed reflects a failure of leadership and a growing culture of impunity across the country.
“This senseless bloodshed represents the continuing failure of leadership and the deepening culture of impunity that has turned parts of our country into killing fields,” he added.

Kwankwaso stressed that the recurring violence in Plateau State and beyond can no longer be handled routinely, urging both federal and state authorities to escalate their response.
“The recurring violence in Plateau State, and indeed across several parts of Nigeria, can no longer be treated as business as usual. It demands to be treated as the national emergency that it was declared to be,” he stated.
He emphasised the right of Nigerians to live in peace, security, and dignity, regardless of ethnic or religious differences.
“Our people deserve the right to live in peace, security, and dignity, regardless of their ethnicity or faith,” he said.
The former governor also extended condolences to victims of the attack, praying for the injured and grieving families in the affected community.
“My heartfelt condolences and prayers go to the families of the victims and the entire Gari Ya Waye community in this moment of profound grief,” Kwankwaso added.
