ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has urged Nigerians to take the 2027 general elections seriously as he officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano.
Kwankwaso said this on Monday after registering and receiving his membership card at Gidan Kwankwasiyya, Miller Road, Bompai, in a development seen as part of broader political realignments ahead of the next election cycle.
His defection, which follows his resignation from the NNPP, was driven by what he described as the need for “strategic realignment” in response to Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

“Considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape, which calls for strategic realignment, I have found it necessary to identify with another political platform that offers the best opportunity to effectively change the nation,” he said.
The event drew high-profile political figures, including David Mark, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi, Dino Melaye, and John Odigie-Oyegun.
Kwankwaso’s alignment with the ADC signals a growing coalition of opposition figures positioning ahead of 2027, with analysts viewing the move as a call for Nigerians to pay closer attention to the coming elections and the alternatives being formed.
He also expressed appreciation to the NNPP leadership and members for their support during his time in the party.
“I extend my deepest appreciation to the National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed and the entire National Working Committee for their steadfast support throughout my time,” he added.
