LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)-Controversial media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, widely known as Daddy Freeze, claimed that Nigeria’s deep religious devotion has not translated into tangible national progress.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, he challenged religion’s influence over Nigeria’s development, disagreeing with the notion that devout religious practice guarantees societal progress.

“How is religion working for us?” Daddy Freeze asked, questioning the practical benefits of religious adherence in Nigeria.

He drew comparisons with less religious nations such as Japan, highlighting their advanced development, higher standards of living, and longer life expectancy.

“My problem with religion is – it has no results. Where is the prosperity? Where is the love? You say God loves us because we are religious, so how come the Japanese are the ones enjoying their own heaven on earth? They are developed,” he said.

According to the founder of Free The Sheeple movement, Nigeria continues to struggle with low life expectancy, which recent 2026 statistics place at just 54 years. He argued that while Nigeria grapples with deep-rooted systemic challenges, its religious citizens continue to live under the belief of God’s favour.

“We don’t have anything but we have this ‘God that favours us.’ However, when we truly list the things what we say favour is – prosperity, health. Did you know Nigeria has the shortest life expectancy in the world according to the 2026 statistics -54 years? Daddy Freeze stated.

Daddy Freeze also criticized the economic weight of religious obligations in Nigeria, noting that citizens contribute more to church developments through tithes than the payment of taxes. He reiterated that despite the sacrifices of devoted believers and their prayers for improvement, Nigeria continues to struggle with economic stagnation.

“We pay more tithes than taxes in this country yet our prayers and sacrifices don’t seem to reflect on the condition of our nation…” he added.
