LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)– Nollywood star Toyin Abraham recently admitted that publicly supporting Bola Ahmed Tinubu during Nigeria’s last presidential election affected her career.
The “Oversabi Aunty” filmmaker made this revelation while urging fellow actor Timini Egbuson to remain politically neutral for the sake of his fast-rising career.
Speaking with Timini Egbuson about ways to strengthen box office results for his film projects, Abraham warned that political involvement can create divisions among audiences and ultimately affect an entertainer’s brand.
“The first advice I will give you in my entire life is, don’t put your mouth in politics. Don’t tell them you’re supporting anybody. Don’t support anybody, just be on your own. Be neutral,” she said.

When Egbuson referenced her own public endorsement during the campaign season, Abraham attempted to distance herself from the moment, replying simply, “That was then.”
However, she quickly acknowledged the backlash that followed. The controversy followed the release of her 2023 film “Malaika.” At the time, the project reportedly faced widespread criticism online and some social media users even vowed to boycott the movie because of Abraham’s political alignment.
Reacting to Timini’s reference, she exclaimed, “Haaaaaaa, it affected me oooo,” confirming that the political stance had a negative effect on her professional journey.
The actress recent remarks suggest she now views political neutrality as a safer path for entertainers seeking broad audience support.
