ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- President Bola Tinubu has approved the procurement of additional military hardware to strengthen the fight against insurgency and terrorism across the country.
The development was disclosed on Thursday by the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, following a high-level security briefing held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Musa said the service chiefs presented the President with a detailed update on ongoing military operations and the prevailing security situation across Nigeria.
According to him, the briefing gave the President a clearer picture of developments on the battlefield.
“The meeting enabled Mr. President to gain direct insight into developments on the ground,” Musa said, adding that recent media reports had not always reflected the full extent of military activities.

The Defence Minister acknowledged that there had been a spate of attacks in some parts of the country but maintained that security forces had continued to respond effectively to the threats.
He stated that troops had inflicted significant losses on terrorist groups during recent operations.
According to Musa, several top commanders of militant groups were neutralised in recent engagements, while troops also recovered weapons and other assets belonging to the insurgents.
The minister also paid tribute to members of the Armed Forces who lost their lives in the line of duty.
“The commitment of our Armed Forces to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians is unwavering,” he said, describing the deaths of the fallen soldiers as deeply regrettable.
Musa appealed to Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of the military’s operations, noting that terrorist groups often intensify attacks during the period of Ramadan.
He said military commanders had already adjusted their operational strategies to respond to the trend.
With the approval of new equipment and improved coordination among security agencies, Musa expressed confidence that the armed forces would eventually defeat the insurgents.
“Our agencies are working in concert, fully committed to winning this war,” he added.
