ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-The Nigerian Army and the Egyptian Army have reiterated their resolve to deepen military cooperation, particularly in the areas of advanced professional training and intelligence sharing, as part of efforts to tackle emerging security threats.
The Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, made this known on Thursday when the Egyptian Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Mohammed Ibrahim, paid a courtesy visit to Army Headquarters in Abuja.
Shaibu stated that Nigeria and Egypt share a long-standing and mutually beneficial military partnership, describing the relationship as an important avenue for strengthening operational effectiveness and professional growth.
He explained that continued collaboration through advanced military courses, training exchanges and professional military education remained vital in preparing personnel to address evolving security threats.

The army chief revealed that a number of Nigerian Army officers had already benefited from specialised military training programmes in Egypt, which had helped to improve the professional capacity of the force.
According to him, the Nigerian Army is prepared to broaden such training opportunities to further equip its personnel with the knowledge and expertise needed to handle complex security challenges.
Shaibu also stressed the importance of reinforcing institutional ties between both armies through strategic-level training and participation in programmes at the Nigerian Army War College.
He noted that such engagements would strengthen professional relationships, encourage knowledge sharing and improve joint capabilities to tackle emerging threats.
The COAS also invited the Egyptian Army to take part in the Nigerian Army Day Celebration scheduled for July.
He further highlighted the need to explore other areas of cooperation, especially in developing aviation capabilities and operational support systems to enhance operational readiness and technological innovation.
Earlier, Ibrahim said his visit was aimed at assessing the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two militaries in 2024.
He added that considerable progress had already been made in implementing aspects of the agreement, particularly in the area of training cooperation.
The defence attaché also said preparations were underway for the next Military Committee Meeting scheduled to take place in Cairo later in the year.
Ibrahim reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening military collaboration with Nigeria, especially in advanced training and intelligence sharing to address contemporary security challenges facing both countries.
