ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has urged Nigerians to channel their concerns through elected representatives, stressing that the legislature remains the proper avenue for addressing national issues.

Akpabio made the call while addressing senators at the resumption of plenary at the Nigerian Senate.

According to him, although social media plays a role in amplifying public opinion and drawing attention to societal problems, lasting solutions are achieved through the legislative process.

He said the Senate serves as a forum for practical decision-making rather

Akpabio noted that while social media can mobilise public sentiment and highlight pressing issues, sustainable solutions require engagement with formal governance structures.

He explained that the responsibility for developing and implementing policies lies with lawmakers elected by the people.

The Senate President also reminded lawmakers that one of the most important responsibilities before the chamber is the consideration of the national budget.

According to him, the budget goes beyond figures, describing it as a critical tool for defining Nigeria’s development priorities.

Akpabio said the document represents the government’s intentions and determines how public resources will be allocated across sectors.

He expressed confidence that Senate committees would thoroughly examine budget proposals to ensure they reflect the needs of Nigerians across different sectors of society.

Akpabio said the budget must address the aspirations of farmers, traders, students, and workers throughout the country.

The Senate President also acknowledged the numerous challenges confronting the country and urged lawmakers to approach their duties with determination and a sense of national responsibility.

He called for prudent management of public resources to strengthen institutions, create economic opportunities, and improve the lives of citizens.

Akpabio further urged senators to carry out their legislative responsibilities with seriousness, dignity, and patriotism despite political differences.
