ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday began the screening of commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The screening session is currently taking place at the Assembly complex under the leadership of Speaker Martin Amaewhule.

Nine nominees were escorted into the legislative chamber at about 10:00 a.m. as the exercise commenced.

The nominees include: Datonye Alasia, Tonye Bellgam, Temple Nwofor, Peters Nwagor, Mrs. Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, Lekue Kenneth, Otonye TKD Amachree and Amairigha Hart

The screening marks the first time commissioner nominees are being evaluated by the Assembly since the end of the state’s emergency rule in September 2025.

Governor Fubara had earlier forwarded the list of nominees to the lawmakers on March 5, 2026, requesting their screening and confirmation.

The move followed the governor’s decision to dissolve the Rivers State Executive Council, paving the way for the appointment of a new cabinet.

Shortly after receiving the list, the Assembly invited the nominees to submit their credentials and other required documents ahead of the screening exercise.

The lawmakers are expected to assess the qualifications and competence of the nominees before deciding whether to confirm their appointments into the Rivers State Executive Council.
