ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has accused former Federal Capital Territory minister Nasir El-Rufai of demolishing thousands of homes and structures in Abuja despite alleged court orders restraining such actions.

Fani-Kayode made the allegations in an opinion article in which he criticised El-Rufai’s past actions in public office and raised questions about issues related to security and governance.

According to him, El-Rufai allegedly ordered the demolition of about 2,000 homes and buildings in Abuja during his tenure as FCT minister, as well as thousands of shanties on the outskirts of the capital.

He also claimed that several orphanages were affected by demolition exercises carried out during that period.

Fani-Kayode further alleged that similar demolitions occurred in Kaduna State when El-Rufai served as governor, including the demolition of structures in communities such as Gbagyi Villa and areas associated with the Islamic Movement of Nigeria.

He said some residents and critics had described the actions as vindictive and claimed that some demolitions occurred despite court orders.

The former minister also criticised other policies attributed to El-Rufai’s administration, including restrictions on certain religious activities and the suspension of state-sponsored pilgrimages.

In addition, Fani-Kayode raised concerns over claims involving alleged phone tapping of the National Security Adviser and references to a banned toxic substance, which he said raised serious security questions.

He urged security agencies, including the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force, to investigate the issues and clarify the allegations.

Fani-Kayode emphasised that the issues raised in his article were questions and concerns requiring clarification, noting that the matter had implications for national security and governance.

Meanwhile, El-Rufai has not publicly responded to the latest allegations at the time of filing this report.
