OGUN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A horrific multi-vehicle accident at the Toll-Gate section of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway on Friday afternoon has left three people dead and six others seriously injured.

The tragedy occurred at approximately 2:00 PM, sending shockwaves through the busy commuter hub.

Mr Salau Hammed, Ota Divisional Commander of the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Hammed said the accident involved 15 persons and six vehicles, and occurred at about 2.15 p.m.

He said an eyewitness reported that a Howo truck travelling inbound on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway lost control due to brake failure and rammed into other vehicles.

“The truck killed three people, comprising a man, a woman and a female toddler, while six others, three males and three females, sustained injuries,” Hammed said.

He added that the victims were attempting to board a bus when the tragic incident occurred.

“The corpses have been deposited at Ifo General Hospital, while survivors are receiving treatment at Ota General Hospital,” he said.

Hammed advised motorists to avoid speeding and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before driving on highways.

He added that the vehicles involved had been towed off the road to restore the free flow of traffic.

NAN reports that on Feb. 17, a truck also suffered brake failure at the same toll-gate area, killing six persons and injuring three others. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
