ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Former Bayelsa State Governor and serving senator, Seriake Dickson, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dickson announced his defection on Thursday while addressing a world press conference, describing his decision as one guided by conviction and concern over the current state of his former party.
“I am a man of conviction,” he said, adding that the PDP is presently in the “Intensive Care Unit (ICU).”
The senator, who represents Bayelsa West, stated that developments within the opposition party necessitated his exit, though he did not immediately elaborate on specific grievances.

He also warned against the danger of Nigeria drifting towards a one-party state, stressing the need for a vibrant and credible opposition to safeguard democracy.
“The nation cannot and should not become a one-party state,” he declared.
Dickson, a former two-term governor of Bayelsa State, has been a prominent figure within the PDP for years and played key roles in its national affairs.
Details of his new political alignment and the implications for Bayelsa politics are expected to emerge as the press conference continues.
