ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) –Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has urged residents of the state to vote massively for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Fayose made the appeal at a rally in Ikere-Ekiti where former PDP House of Representatives candidate, Henrich Akomolafe, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside hundreds of supporters.
Speaking at the event attended by Governor Biodun Oyebanji, Fayose expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure victory in 2027, citing what he described as the President’s performance and growing popularity.
He clarified that he has no intention of joining the APC but pledged to mobilise support to ensure Oyebanji wins a second term.

“With or without defections, President Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji have won the trust of the people. Ekiti residents are not ungrateful, and we will repay them with electoral victories,” Fayose said.
He added that Oyebanji’s leadership had positioned Tinubu to secure higher votes in Ekiti in the next presidential election, describing the governor as a unifier deserving of full backing.
In his remarks, Oyebanji said electioneering activities had remained moderate in consideration of ongoing Muslim and Christian fasting, urging political actors to maintain peace and uphold democratic norms.
He called for aggressive voter mobilisation, setting a target of at least 600,000 votes.
“Our votes shouldn’t be less than 600,000 in the coming governorship election if we want to signal to President Tinubu that Ekiti is solidly behind him. All residents should ensure they obtain their PVCs and engage in house-to-house mobilisation,” Oyebanji said.
The governor assured Akomolafe and his supporters of full integration into the APC, stressing that the party values contributions regardless of previous affiliations.
The rally signals evolving political alignments in Ekiti ahead of 2027, as cross-party support begins to shape the state’s electoral landscape.
