ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Former Vice President Kamala Harris has criticised the Trump administration’s military operations in Iran, accusing the President of pulling the United States into a dangerous and unnecessary gamble.
The remarks were contained in a statement released by Harris on Saturday.
The statement, which was shared on X, signals a sharp intensification of political opposition following the recent U.S. strikes.
Harris, who served as Vice President between 2021 and 2025, cast herself as a leading critic of what she described as a “regime-change war” that she said does not have the backing of the American public.
“Donald Trump is dragging the United States into a war the American people do not want,” Harris wrote.

“Let me be clear: I am opposed to a regime-change war in Iran, and our troops are being put in harm’s way for the sake of Trump’s war of choice”, she added.
Her criticism centred on the President’s temperament and past campaign pledges, arguing that the current escalation runs counter to the non-interventionist message Trump promoted during his return to the White House.
“What we are witnessing is not strength. It is recklessness dressed up as resolve.
“During the campaign, Donald Trump promised to end wars rather than start them. It was a lie”, Harris stated.
She also raised constitutional issues over the authorisation of military force.
The former U.S. Vice President urged Congress to exercise its oversight authority to halt further escalation, stressing that the President did not obtain a formal mandate for the strikes.
“Under the Constitution of the United States, the President must receive authorization from Congress to enter a war.

“But even if he had, that does not change the fact this action is unwise, unjustified, and not supported by the American people”, the statement continued.
The statement further addressed the human cost of the conflict. As the administration acknowledged the possibility of U.S. casualties, Harris underscored the importance of “steadiness and discipline” at the highest levels of leadership.
“Our troops deserve a Commander-in-Chief who approaches decisions on matters of war and peace with the same steadiness and discipline our troops show every day,” she concluded.
The White House has not yet issued an official response to the former Vice President’s comments.
