ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed claims that his recent meeting in Minna with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde was aimed at negotiating a vice-presidential slot ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued Thursday in Abuja, Atiku’s Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, described allegations made by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose as false and misleading.
Fayose had alleged that the meeting, which took place during a visit to former military President Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (IBB), involved political bargaining over the 2027 ticket.
But Shaibu rejected the claim outright, saying no such discussions occurred.
“At no time did former Vice President Atiku Abubakar engage in any negotiation over a vice-presidential slot,” he said, adding that there were no financial commitments, zoning arrangements, or secret agreements tied to the visit.

He also denied reports suggesting the existence of a separate meeting outside the country to advance any such agenda.
According to Shaibu, Atiku’s political engagements are national in scope and not driven by what he described as “transactional politics.”
He accused those behind the claims of attempting to create controversy for relevance, insisting that the Minna visit did not involve discussions about the 2027 elections.
The rebuttal comes amid growing political permutations ahead of the next general election cycle.
