LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)-Vivian Nkwiruka, wife of the popular Nollywood actor and comedian Nwaogu Udochukwu Victor, widely known as Nkubi, has ignited a fierce public debate over medical ethics following a shocking encounter with a healthcare professional.

During a recent sit-down with Pulse Nigeria, the mother of one recounted how a doctor questioned her decision to conceive with her husband, who has achondroplasia (dwarfism), suggesting instead that she should have sought a “genetically different” partner for her pregnancy.

The disturbing exchange reportedly occurred during a routine abnormality scan, where the physician inquired about the couple’s genetic traits. Upon learning that Nkubi was the biological father, the doctor allegedly offered unsolicited and insensitive alternatives to her current pregnancy.

“The doctor said why didn’t you go to your brother-in-law, or outside to get pregnant, instead of getting pregnant for your husband. Or even get a sperm donor, that’s what a doctor told me,” Vivian shared, expressing her disbelief at the professional’s disregard for her marital bond.

This revelation has triggered a wave of solidarity for the couple across social media, with fans and human rights advocates condemning the doctor’s remarks as a blatant violation of medical decorum. On the other hand, some people argued that although the doctor spoke harshly, he was pointing to a real issue, since children born with dwarfism often face social stigma and physical challenges that can make life especially difficult for them.

Despite the 50% genetic inheritance risk associated with achondroplasia, Vivian maintained that individuals with dwarfism possess equal rights to parenthood. The couple’s resilience was solidified last year with the arrival of their daughter, Soromtochukwu, who has become a symbol of their commitment to family over societal or medical prejudice.

Nkubi, a celebrated figure in the Nigerian film and digital content space, has long been an advocate for the visibility and dignity of people living with dwarfism. This latest incident highlights the deep-seated biases still prevalent within the healthcare system, even when dealing with high-profile Nollywood families.
