ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 62-year-old Lagos-based auto spare parts dealer, Nwabueze Nicholas Izueke, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, after he was caught attempting to traffic 95 jumbo-sized wraps of cocaine to China by ingesting them.
The suspect, who was travelling to China via Addis Ababa on Ethiopian Airlines flight ET940, was arrested on Saturday, January 31, 2026, during the outward clearance of passengers.
NDLEA said the wraps, weighing 1.589 kilograms, were discovered after the suspect tested positive during a body scan and was placed under excretion observation.
“When taken for a body scan, he tested positive for ingesting an illicit drug and was promptly placed under excretion observation.
“While under observation, the suspect, who claims he’s into the clothing and auto spare parts business in Lagos, expelled a total of 95 pellets of the class A drug in seven excretions,” the agency said.

In his statement, Izueke claimed he ventured into drug trafficking to raise money to complete a country home he is building in Iwollo, Enugu State.
Meanwhile, NDLEA disclosed that operatives recovered 627.7 kilograms of skunk, a strain of cannabis, from a makeshift warehouse at Fums Plaza, Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The agency also foiled an attempt by Ebube Okeke, Evans Ugwu, Mohammed Eze Arinze and Friday Michael to smuggle consignments of methamphetamine concealed in MP3 speakers** from Enugu to Abuja and Kaduna.
The consignments were intercepted on Friday, February 6, when NDLEA operatives stopped a bus in Abuja.
“A follow-up operation in Zuba, FCT, led to the arrest of Ebube Okeke, owner of one of the parcels containing 173 grams of meth, while the trio of Evans Ugwu, Mohammed Eze Arinze and Friday Michael were arrested on Saturday, February 7, in Kaduna when they arrived to collect the second consignment weighing 28 grams of meth” the agency said.
In Taraba State, NDLEA operatives at Dan-anacha patrol point**, Gassol Local Government Area, on Friday, February 6, intercepted Yusuf Abubakar, 32, who was conveying packs of Hollandia yoghurt from Lagos to Mubi, Adamawa State.
A search of the yoghurt packs revealed wraps of white powdery substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, weighing 1.8 kilograms.
In Oyo State, NDLEA officers on Thursday, February 5, arrested Shuaibu Abdulrahman, 29, a Beninoise national, at Ibudo-Igboho village, Sooro Kishi, where 149.6kg of skunk concealed in rice shafts was recovered.
In a separate operation in Ibadan, a suspect, Adeniyi Adeola (a.k.a. Prince), was arrested at Foko, Agbeni market, on Wednesday, February 4.
Recovered from his truck with registration number BDJ 767 YC were 10,820 ampoules of pentazocine injection and 117,820 capsules of tramadol.

Also in Ibadan, NDLEA arrested a drug kingpin, Jimoh Nurudeen, 40, at Badeku area on Saturday, February 7, along with his accomplice, Ogundipe Yusuf, 27, at a facility used for producing Colorado, a synthetic cannabis.
Recovered from them include eight litres of precursor chemical, 14 grams of skunk, other Colorado production paraphernalia, N7,408,400 in cash, and two vehicles: a Mercedes-Benz SUV (ABC 832 AZ) and a Toyota Highlander (RBC 243 BS).
In Kwara State, NDLEA operatives on Saturday, February 7, intercepted a fuel tanker conveying petrol from Lagos to Maiduguri, Borno State, where a search led to the recovery of 395,400 capsules of tramadol concealed within the truck. The driver was taken into custody.
Similarly, a couple, Izuchukwu Azubuike, 37, and Ifunaya Mmadueke, 32, were arrested at Umuaka, Njaba, Imo State, with 203kg of skunk on Saturday, February 7.
Operatives in Ondo State on Friday, February 6, recovered 420kg of skunk hidden in a bush at Ikun, Akoko.
At Yekeme, Badagry, Lagos State, operatives of the NDLEA Marine Command on Friday, February 6, seized 31 wraps of cocaine concealed in a handbag from Eze Nodebechi Austin, who arrived from Côte d’Ivoire by passenger boat.
