ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Enugu State Police Command has arrested four male suspects and recovered a trailer-load of vandalised bridge components and suspected oil and gas pipes in two coordinated operations aimed at curbing infrastructure vandalism across the state.
The arrests were disclosed in a press release issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa.
According to the police, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Squad intercepted a white MAN Diesel 40-foot trailer conveying vandalised iron bridge parts at about 6:45 p.m. on February 6, 2026, along the Sagem/Amaechi-Idodo axis of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.
Three suspects Agbo Okwudili (45), Emmanuel Onyemachi (18), and Evans Ovie Monday (29) were immediately arrested at the scene.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects, alongside others currently at large, vandalised iron bridge components at Eziama Bridge, Amechi-Idodo, in Nkanu East Local Government Area,” the police stated.

In a separate operation later that night, at about 11:56 p.m., the same SWAT operatives, while on routine patrol along Owoh/Ubahu Road, also in Nkanu East LGA, arrested another suspect, Orjiakor Hyacinth (50).

Police said the suspect was caught while assembling vandalised suspected carbon steel oil and gas pipes. Several pieces of the pipes, as well as one gas cylinder, were recovered from him.
The Command confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the vandalism syndicates who are currently on the run, noting that all arrested suspects would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the operatives for their vigilance, the Commissioner of Police said the arrests underscored the Command’s resolve to protect public infrastructure and ensure the safety of residents.
“The Enugu State Police Command remains unwavering in its commitment to the protection of lives and property,” the CP said, warning vandals to desist from criminal activities that cause “serious social and economic setbacks” to the state.
He added that the Command would not relent in tracking down and bringing all perpetrators to justice.
