LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a key suspect in connection with the mysterious deaths of a popular gospel musician and three associates found lifeless inside an Ajah recording studio.
Spurred by nationwide outcry, the investigation into the passing of singer Matthew Ogundele, Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and prominent blogger JoesTv has now been elevated to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for high-level forensic scrutiny.
Confirming the latest development on Sunday, February 8, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, revealed that the individual who coordinated the ill-fated “birthday praise” event is currently behind bars.
“The incident was initially reported at the Ajah Division but was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). One suspect, identified as the organiser of the event, is currently in custody,” Adebisi stated, noting that the command is now awaiting critical autopsy results to determine the exact cause of the simultaneous fatalities.

This chilling case first came to light after the studio owner, Akintayo Akinbola, discovered the four victims inside his facility at the HFP Shopping Complex in the early hours of Wednesday. The group had reportedly performed late into Tuesday night and opted to sleep over at the venue to avoid a late-night commute.
When Akinbola returned the following morning and found the studio locked from the inside, he raised an alarm, leading to the forced entry that uncovered the tragedy. Initial reports from detectives who visited the scene indicated a lack of visible physical violence on the bodies, a detail that has only intensified public speculation regarding potential carbon monoxide poisoning or food contamination.
While the victims were officially confirmed dead at the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, their remains are now being preserved at the mortuary pending a comprehensive medical examination.
The gospel music community and fans of JoesTv have flooded social media with demands for transparency, urging the authorities to ensure no stone is left unturned. As the investigation continues at the SCID, the public awaits the autopsy results that may shed light on the cause of this tragic incident, bringing closure to the grieving families and the wider community.
