ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports suggesting that Governor Dauda Lawal is planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party.
The party described the report as false and misleading, insisting that it has not received any formal communication from the governor indicating an intention to join the APC.
In a statement issued on Friday, the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Malam Yusuf Idris, said the party became aware of what he termed a fabricated publication allegedly circulated by a platform known as Tambarin Gusau.
According to Idris, the report falsely claimed that Governor Lawal had written to the APC seeking membership, a development he said did not occur.
He described the publication as “malicious, unfounded and clearly mischievous,” adding that it was deliberately circulated in an unprofessional manner to mislead the public and create unnecessary political tension.

“The APC has established and responsible channels through which all official communications are processed in a guided and transparent manner,” Idris said.
He stressed that no such letter has been received by the party at the state or national level and that the APC is not aware of any move by Governor Lawal to dump the PDP.
“The party has not received any letter of defection from Governor Dauda Lawal, nor are we aware of any plan by him to leave his party,” he stated.
Idris urged party members and residents of Zamfara State to disregard the report, describing it as the handiwork of political mischief-makers seeking to destabilise the political environment.
He reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to internal stability and responsible political engagement, warning against the spread of rumours capable of misleading the public.
