ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Mr Osborne Umahi, son of the Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has formally joined the race for the Ohaozara Local Government Area chairmanship, having picked the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form ahead of the August 2026 council elections in the state.
Osborne obtained the nomination form at the APC State Secretariat in Abakaliki, signalling his intention to contest on the platform of the ruling party.
The aspirant, who is the first son of the minister and currently manages his father’s business interests, was accompanied by party stakeholders, youth leaders and supporters drawn from Ohaozara Local Government Area.
At the party secretariat, he was received by members of the APC State Executive Committee, led by the state , Mr Stanley Okoro-Emegha.
Addressing party members, Okoro-Emegha described chairman Osborne Umahi as a capable, intelligent and enterprising young politician, expressing confidence in his capacity to deliver purposeful leadership if elected.

He said the party was optimistic that Osborne’s emergence would help reposition Ohaozara Local Government Area and advance grassroots development.
In his remarks, Osborne Umahi thanked the people of Ohaozara for endorsing and encouraging him to seek the chairmanship position, assuring them that he would justify the trust and confidence reposed in him.
He pledged to run an administration anchored on fairness, diligence and accountability, stressing that he would serve without fear or favour if given the mandate.
Osborne identified youth empowerment as a central pillar of his proposed administration, noting that his age and exposure placed him in a strong position to understand and address the challenges confronting young people in the area.
“My priority will be youth empowerment and the introduction of innovative programmes that will uplift young people and create opportunities for them,” he said.
He also promised to sustain the infrastructure development legacy of his father, assuring residents that his leadership would prioritise projects with direct and positive impact on communities across Ohaozara Local Government Area.
The Ohaozara Local Government chairmanship election is scheduled to hold in August 2026, as part of the statewide council polls in Ebonyi.
