LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)-Nigeria is stepping into a week of moody skies as the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), rolls out a weather forecast that blends dust haze, bright sunshine and dramatic thunderstorms across the country from Monday to Wednesday.
In its latest outlook released Sunday in Abuja, NiMet signaled that parts of the North will kick off the week under moderate dust haze. Kebbi and Kano states are expected to experience reduced horizontal visibility of between two and five kilometres, setting a hazy tone, while other northern states bask in sunny but dusty conditions.
Moving to the central region, the agency projected a similar atmospheric mood. Parts of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State will also experience moderate dust haze within the same visibility range. Elsewhere in the region, residents should expect sunny and hazy skies to dominate the forecast window.

Down south, NiMet anticipates sunshine mixed with patches of cloud, alongside the likelihood of afternoon or evening thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall in parts of Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states. This pattern is expected to inject brief bursts of rainfall into otherwise bright days.
By Tuesday, the dust haze is forecast to ease slightly in Kano and Kebbi, though sunshine and haze remain widespread across the northern belt. Central states are tipped to maintain sunny and hazy conditions, with isolated thunderstorms likely to surface over Plateau State later in the day.
Meanwhile, the southern region may see thunderstorms stretch across Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
On Wednesday, NiMet predicts consistency across much of the country, with sunny and hazy skies holding firm in both the northern and central regions. In the South, sunshine with scattered clouds will prevail, though thunderstorms may still develop over Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
Alongside the forecast, the agency issued a cautionary note on public safety, warning, “Dust particles are in suspension; the public should take necessary precautions. People with asthmatic health conditions and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the present weather conditions.”
It also advised that “driving during rain should be done with caution,” while urging airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for proper planning.
NiMet encouraged residents to stay alert through regular weather updates, reiterating that awareness and preparation remain key to navigating another week of atmospheric contrasts.
