ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Former Kano State Governor and national leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has commended his supporters for their loyalty, patience, and resilience, describing their steadfastness as the bedrock for the movement’s future growth.

Kwankwaso, in a statement released on Monday, expressed appreciation to supporters and sympathisers who have continued to uphold the ideals of Kwankwasiyya despite what he described as challenging and uncertain times.

“I extend my deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to our vibrant social media family, loyal supporters, and all well-wishers who continue to stand firmly by our noble cause,” the former governor said.

He noted that the enduring strength of the movement rests on the unwavering commitment of its followers to the principles of service, integrity, and people-oriented development, even amid internal strains and external political pressures.

“Your unwavering dedication to the timeless ideals of Kwankwasiyya service, integrity, and people-centred progress coupled with your remarkable patience in the face of trials and tribulations, forms the very foundation upon which the promising future of our movement is being built,” he added.

Kwankwaso further assured supporters of his continued resolve to remain focused on service to the people, stressing that decisions taken under the Kwankwasiyya platform would consistently prioritise the welfare of citizens, particularly young people.

“Rest assured, we shall remain steadfast in our duty to serve, making decisions that uplift and benefit our people, with special focus and priority on our loyal youth,” he said.

The message comes against the backdrop of rising political tension within the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State, following persistent speculation over a possible defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The speculation has reportedly fuelled internal divisions within the party, with factions aligning either with the governor or remaining loyal to Kwankwaso, who is widely regarded as the NNPP’s national leader.

PUNCH reports that key figures believed to be aligned with Kwankwaso include the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo; Commissioner for Science and Technology, Yusuf Kofar Mata; factional NNPP chairman, Hon. Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa; and the Senior Special Assistant on Political Affairs to the governor, Hon. Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso.

The disagreement has also reportedly led to both camps opening separate membership registers, allowing supporters to formally declare loyalty amid uncertainty over the party’s political direction in the state.

Although neither the Kano State Government nor the NNPP leadership has officially confirmed any defection plans, the unfolding developments have heightened political tension in Kano, a traditional stronghold of the Kwankwasiyya movement.

Kwankwaso concluded by once again thanking supporters for their loyalty and perseverance, describing their commitment as central to sustaining the relevance and continuity of the movement despite ongoing political challenges.
