ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-The Federal Government has opened applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund Overseas Scholarship Scheme, offering Nigerian postgraduate students the chance to study in the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Malaysia.
The development was disclosed on Monday in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun.
“FG has announced the commencement of applications for 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarships overseas,” the post stated.
According to information published on the scholarship board’s website, the scheme is designed for MSc and PhD candidates in fields relevant to the oil and gas industry.

Successful applicants will benefit from full tuition, return air tickets, accommodation and living allowances, health insurance, and bench fees where applicable.
In its statement, the PTDF said, “The 2026 Overseas MSc and PhD Scholarships provide access to world-class training, research facilities, and global expertise, while developing indigenous capacity in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.”
For PhD candidates applying to study in the United Kingdom, the programme will operate under a split-site model, with research conducted between the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK), and selected partner universities in the UK, including Robert Gordon University, the University of Strathclyde and the University of Portsmouth.
The fund noted that the scholarships are highly competitive, stressing that “Only candidates who demonstrate outstanding merit and suitability will be considered.”
It added that assessment will be based on academic qualifications, research proposals, professional body membership and the relevance of proposed studies to the oil and gas sector.
Eligibility requirements for MSc applicants include a minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) or Second Class Upper (2.1) degree, completion of the NYSC programme, computer literacy and at least five O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
PhD applicants are also required to submit a research proposal of no more than five pages detailing objectives, methodology and data collection methods.
The PTDF further warned that “All applicants must ensure their National Identity Number (NIN) is verified prior to application, and multiple applications or submission of falsified documents will result in automatic disqualification.”
Interested candidates are to submit their applications online via scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng for approved programmes at PTDF partner institutions.
The application deadline is February 27.
