LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Veteran Nollywood actress and evangelist Eucharia Anunobi has fired back at explosive claims circulating online, threatening legal action after a leaked audio recording linked her romantically to a popular cleric for over five years.
The controversy erupted after an audio clip surfaced on social media, allegedly capturing founder of Fresh Oil Ministry International Church, Psalm Okpe, in a private conversation with another cleric identified as Martins. In the recording, both men made explicit remarks about alleged past sexual relationships involving Anunobi and church leader Chikere Nwafor.
The conversation also included unverified claims of homosexuality against another male pastor, a detail that intensified public backlash.
Following the backlash, Okpe who had previously ordained Anunobi into ministry issued a public apology, acknowledging the damage caused by the recording. He described the audio as “disturbing” and admitted he was “very embarrassed by those vulgar words.”
Anunobi, however, rejected the apology outright. Responding publicly, she described Okpe as a “monumental global shame” and accused him of spreading malicious falsehoods designed to tarnish her reputation and ministry.
In a lengthy Instagram post, the 60-year-old preacher dismissed the claims of a long-term romantic relationship, stating that the allegations were entirely untrue and had subjected her to severe emotional distress.

“I am not going to allow that to be swept under the carpet because that malicious, vile statement has left me in emotional trauma. And it is also a testament to his threats over the years to destroy my ministry,” she stated.
She insisted she has remained celibate since her ordination nearly 14 years ago, even while acknowledging that she had been in courtship relationships during that period.
“I want to state here categorically that in almost 14 years since I have been midwifed into ministry, I have been celibate and have been keeping myself for the man that will be deserving of my new virginity. That is not to say that I have not been in courtship or not been engaged. Oh, I have been engaged for several years. I have been in courtship all this time,” she said.
In addition, “But none of these men can come out and say they have had penile penetration with me. None of them can say they have had sex with me. That is why I boldly preach righteousness.”
Taking the matter further, Anunobi revealed that she has formally initiated legal action against Okpe. According to her, petitions have already been submitted to Nigerian authorities and US agencies over what she described as defamation and sustained threats to her spiritual work.
“So, I have instituted a legal action so that he can come and prove how he dated me for five years and six months. My lawyers have been instructed to start the process of writing a petition to the Nigerian police force, the US Security and Immigration Department, against Psalm Okpe, for defamatory accusations,” Anuobi concluded.
