LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- The family of late gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, has officially cancelled all plans for her burial, sparking concern across the Christian music community that had been preparing to honour her final rites.
The announcement was made on Saturday by Lanre Alewilese, a close associate of the singer and a member of the burial planning committee. Sharing the update via social media, Alewilese revealed that unresolved family issues forced the committee to halt every arrangement put in place for the funeral.
In his statement, Alewilese expressed regret over the sudden development while stressing that the decision was unavoidable.
“To whom it may concern: This is to inform you that all plans & arrangements for the burial of our Late Sister & Colleague; Lady Evang. Bunmi Akinnaanu a.k.a. OMIJE OJUMI by the Burial Planning Committee has been CANCELLED totally,” he wrote.
He further explained, “This decision becomes necessary due to some issues arising from & within her family. We are deeply sorry & regret the inconveniences sir/ma. Ki Oluwa je ki Ojo o jinna si’ra won (Amin).”

The cancellation comes a short time after burial activities had circulated online, with several gospel music lovers already making plans to attend. Those arrangements, which were shared earlier on behalf of the family by gospel singer Alayo Melody, had outlined multiple events leading to her interment.
Following the latest update, no new burial date has been announced.
Prior to this development, confusion had already trailed the singer’s funeral plans after misleading flyers surfaced online. Alayo Melody had cautioned fans and colleagues to disregard unverified information and wait for official communication from the family.
Omije Ojumi passed away on January 12, 2026, at a Lagos hospital after battling a long-term leg ailment. In the months before her death, emotional videos showing her receiving prayers in church while struggling with her condition circulated online, drawing sympathy and support from fellow gospel artistes and fans.
Widely celebrated for her soul-stirring worship style, Bunmi Akinnaanu rose to prominence with her song “Omije Ojumi,” which became a staple in churches and Christian gatherings across the country.
For now, admirers of the late singer continue to await further updates from her family, holding on to the legacy of faith and worship she left behind.
