LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Burna Boy’s journey to the AFCON Fan Zone stage came with an unexpected twist after the Nigerian superstar was briefly detained at a Moroccan airport over his signature gold jewellery.
The incident was revealed by CAF President Patrice Motsepe during a recent press conference, offering fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the Grammy winner’s arrival ahead of his headline performance in Rabat.
According to Motsepe, customs officials flagged Burna Boy’s lavish accessories shortly after he landed, prompting a delay that required high-level intervention.

Motsepe recounted stepping in personally to ease the situation, stressing that the matter was resolved without conflict.
“Recently was called that I need intervene because Burna Boy was stopped at the airport after customs officers noticed his heavy and beautiful gold jewellery. I intervened and it was resolved,” he shared.
Following the brief airport setback, Burna Boy went on to headline the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Fan Zone concert in Rabat on January 16, delivering a performance that drew massive crowds and capped the night’s festivities.
The concert also featured Ghanaian star Stonebwoy alongside Moroccan acts Stormy and Jaylann, underscoring AFCON’s celebration of African music and culture.
